Materials Science and Engineering Scholarship Program
The School of Materials Science and Engineering (MSE) has an extensive degree-based scholarship program. Multiple funding options are available for undergraduate students who are pursuing a MSE degree. The MSE multi-year scholarship funding is available for first-year students for up to eight semesters. General scholarship funding is available for current and transfer students through the general award process. The MSE general scholarship is available for up to two semesters.
MSE seeks scholars who have demonstrated exceptional academic excellence, commitment to materials science and engineering, motivation, leadership and extracurricular activities, and interest in research, internships and/or co-op programs. Applicants must pursue a B. S. degree in MSE. All awards will be made on a competitive basis. Funding is contingent on the student maintaining the required grade point average (GPA) and upon continued funding from the sponsoring entity. Students must be making steady progress toward their degree requirements to renew multi-year scholarships at the subsequent class levels.

MSE Scholarship Application Process
Entering First-Year Students:
Following acceptance to Georgia Tech, students majoring in MSE will receive email communication regarding the MSE scholarship application process. Applications will be submitted electronically and will require an updated resume. Letters of recommendation and a secondary application may be needed to determine scholarship finalists. Interviews are not a required aspect of the scholarship process. Should you have questions about the process, please reach out to Tristen Jones , the MSE Educational Outreach Manager, via email at tjones388@gatech.edu.
Please note: To promote equity in the scholarship process, students receiving a MSE multi-year scholarship may not be eligible for general scholarships. Some funding sources may place other restrictions on who can receive and renew scholarships.
Current MSE & Transfer Students:
Current MSE and transfer students are eligible for the general scholarship. The call for open applications will occur in the fall of each academic year, with the potential of a spring application process. Applications and funding is contingent upon availability of current funding sources and/or new scholarships provided throughout the academic year.
MSE Research Scholars Program
MSE Research Scholarships are only open to first-year students who are majoring in Georgia Tech’s Materials Science and Engineering. Accepted recipients will be afforded a paid summer position in a faculty research group following successful completion of their first two academic semesters on campus. The application process will include submission of an application and resume. Information will be sent to first-year MSE students in October of each academic year.
Key components of the Research Scholars Program include:
- Research in spring semester of first-year (Either 3 or 6 credits)
- Summer research for 40 hours/week for 10 weeks
- The MSE Research Scholarship award is $7000, which is awarded during the summer.
- Research in fall semester of second-year (Either 3 or 6 credits)
For questions about the process, please contact Tristen Jones , Educational Outreach Manager, via email at tjones388@gatech.edu.
PLEASE NOTE: All MSE Scholarship guidelines, eligibility and award amounts are subject to change. Prospective and current students are advised to check the GT MSE website or to contact the Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid for the most up-to-date information. Scholarship students will be notified of any changes in their initial award contracts.
