Sila Nanotechnology recently announced it has raised $375 million in a close of its Series G round. The startup was co-founded by Gleb Yushin, B. Mifflin Hood Chair and Regents’ Entrepreneur. Sila Nanotechnology defines their mission as “power[ing] the world’s transition to clean energy.” In order to reach this goal, Sila Nanotechnology has secured the funding to complete the company’s Moses Lake, WA plant in Q1 of 2025.
With this plant, Sila Nanotechnology will begin production of their Titan Silicone™ anode material. With multiple customers already lined up including Mercedes-Benz and Panasonic, the funding and the new facility will allow Sila Nanotechnology to begin providing Titan Silicone™ in Q4 of 2025, exciting news both for their customers and the state of the battery-powered world.
Sila Nanotechnology’s Titan Silicone™ represents a new and better alternative to graphite in Li-ion cells. In a press release discussing this funding and the scaling up of production, Sila Nanotechnology’s co-founder and CEO, Gene Berdichevsky, said, “to transform the world and meet consumer expectations, the [automotive] industry needs to take the next big step on battery performance and charging speeds. With Sila, automakers can deliver next-generation EVs that will win over those who expect more from their electric experience.”
With an up to 20-25% increase in energy density over the current best performing graphite cells along with up to 40% improvement in recharge times, creating a lower cost per kWh battery, it looks like Sila Nanotechnology is on its way to achieving their mission with Titan Silicone™.
