Women in Materials Science and Engineering (WiMSE) held their annual Connect and Dine networking event on April 5 for a large group that included graduate and undergraduate MSE students, faculty, industry members, and alumni. This year’s theme was ‘The Great Scientific Adventure’, inspired by the current and first woman Director-General at the European Council for Nuclear Research (CERN), Fabiola Gianotti’s quote “This job is a great scientific adventure. But it’s also a great human adventure.” The keynote speaker was Vanessa Li from Novelis, sharing her insight and experience with women in engineering. The student speaker was Sophia Anderson, speaking on the topic of the Great Scientific Adventure in our lives. WiMSE also used the event to recognize Lexi Brammer as the Most Influential Undergraduate student, Daria Bukharina as the Most Influential Graduate student, and MSE Associate Professor Matt McDowell as the Most Influential Faculty member. WiMSE thanks everyone who attended and is looking forward to hosting the event again next year.
