MSE Assistant Professor Blair Brettmann presented the MRS Communications Lecture at the 2023 Spring Meeting in San Francisco.
The MRS Communication lecture recognizes excellence in the field of materials research through work published in MRS Communications and honors authors of an outstanding paper published in the journal during the preceding year. Brettmann’s presentation was based on the paper Material Extrusion Additive Manufacturing of Dense Pastes Consisting of Macroscopic Particles published in August 2022 and co-authored by Alexandra Marnot and Alexandra Dobbs.
Her presentation, Rheology and Formulation in Material Extrusion Additive Manufacturing of Dense Pastes, discussed the benefits and limitations of an emerging technique known as direct-ink-writing (DIW), a form of additive manufacturing in which a filament of paste is extruded by a nozzle, layer-by-layer, to form a 3D-printed structure.
