Abstract:
This seminar will cover an overview of intellectual property, including what is intellectual property and why it is important to businesses, engineers, and entrepreneurs. We will discuss copyrights, trademarks and patents, and how each is procured. We will also touch on careers in IP law. This is meant to be an interactive session, so questions are welcome.
Bio:
Bill Silverio is a Georgia Tech alum (EE ’95) and a patent attorney (UGA School of Law ‘98). He’s been practicing law in Atlanta since 1999, and at Cisco Systems since 2009. Bill manages a portion of Cisco’s worldwide patent litigation, and works closely with Cisco’s Intellectual Property Group to support Cisco’s strategic IP efforts. He’s handled over 120 cases for Cisco, including one heard by the U.S. Supreme Court. Prior to joining Cisco Bill’s work in private practice focused on patent prosecution and portfolio management. He’s drafted hundreds of patent applications for clients including Apple, Google, and UPS. Bill and his family live in Marietta, and he has a daughter that is in her junior year at Tech.
